When the Target Value of an Account Manager Target changes, Salesforce does not automatically redistribute that new value to the existing team-member assignments. The target owner must explicitly propagate the change.
Salesforce documents the procedure precisely: open the changed Account Manager Target, navigate to the Assignments tab, and select Propagate to Assignments. The system recalculates the affected assignment values according to the percentages already assigned to the immediate team members.
This behavior is necessary because Account Manager Targets use a hierarchical allocation model. A manager can assign percentages of an overall target to direct reports and those users can subsequently distribute their assignments by Account, Product, and time period. Automatically changing every downstream assignment whenever the parent target changes could modify target allocations without explicit managerial control.
After propagation completes, Salesforce sends an in-app notification to the target owner. Team members whose assignment values were changed also receive notification. Salesforce specifies that propagation directly updates the assignments of the user's immediate team members; subsequent target management follows the hierarchy.
Therefore, changing the Target Value and saving the record alone is insufficient. Propagate to Assignments is the required action.
