Scope creep occurs when work, features, requirements, or deliverables are added to a project beyond the approved scope without corresponding formal review and adjustment of schedule, resources, budget, or other constraints.
The scenario describes precisely that situation: team members are expanding the original project without requesting formal changes. Even individually small additions can accumulate and create significant problems, including missed deadlines, increased costs, resource overload, diluted priorities, and reduced quality.
Risk assessment is the systematic identification and evaluation of potential events that could affect project objectives. Critical path refers to the sequence of dependent activities that determines the minimum project completion time. A work breakdown structure decomposes approved project scope into manageable components and work packages.
Effective scope management requires clearly defined deliverables, documented requirements, stakeholder agreement, and a change-control process. Proposed additions should be evaluated for their impact before approval. A TD project manager developing a curriculum, learning platform, or organizational initiative should therefore distinguish legitimate approved change from uncontrolled expansion of project commitments.
