A talent development professional is preparing to lead a team-building session with a large group...

Rounds are particularly effective for team-building activities involving a large group because participants can be organized into smaller clusters while maintaining opportunities for discussion, collaboration, and interactive exercises.

Round-table seating encourages participants to face one another rather than directing all attention toward the facilitator. This supports peer interaction, group problem solving, collaborative activities, and relationship building—the central objectives of most team-building sessions. It also allows a large audience to be divided into manageable working groups without requiring separate rooms.

Chevron seating primarily directs attention toward the front of the room and is more suitable when presentation visibility is important. Conference-style seating is useful for relatively small groups but becomes difficult to manage with large numbers of participants. A U-shaped arrangement supports facilitator interaction and group discussion but requires substantial space and becomes impractical with a large audience.

Room configuration should be driven by instructional objectives. When collaboration among participants is more important than uninterrupted lecture delivery, clustered round tables provide an effective physical environment for active participation and team interaction.
