A project model, which includes multidisciplinary and DWG links, has been exhibiting problematic behavior.

The DWG should be cleaned in AutoCAD before it is accepted as a Revit link. Setting PROXYGRAPHICS=1 preserves graphical representations of custom or proxy objects so that applications without the originating object enabler can display the relevant geometry. PURGE ALL removes unused layers, blocks, linetypes, text styles, registered applications, and other unreferenced definitions that unnecessarily increase file complexity.

AUDIT identifies and repairs database errors, while OVERKILL removes duplicate or overlapping lines and can consolidate redundant geometry. Together, these operations reduce the amount of irrelevant data Revit must interpret when loading and regenerating the linked file.

Deleting every XREF may remove required design information, while changing fonts does not resolve database corruption or excessive geometry. Deleting all text and exploding all geometry is destructive and commonly increases the number of individual entities, making performance worse. Setting PROXYGRAPHICS=0 can prevent required custom-object representations from being retained for downstream display.

The cleaned DWG should also be limited to the required layers and extents, checked for correct units and coordinates, and linked rather than imported wherever feasible.
