What is the expected result when extending a route without the middleware chain?

When an SFRA controller inherits an existing route and usesserver.append()to add another middleware function, the appended function is addedafter the existing middleware chain. The developer does not need to repeat all of the middleware that already belongs to the base route.

Salesforce states directly thatserver.appendcauses a route to execute both theoriginal middleware chain and any additional appended steps. Therefore, provided the custom controller correctly extends the base server module and callsnext(), the original route executes first and the appended custom code executes afterward.

Omitting the existing middleware declarations from the appended function does not itself generate a parameter-mismatch runtime error. The inherited route retains its consent, cache, authentication, metadata, or other middleware steps. Option C reverses the execution sequence expected from an append operation.
