LEED v5 IPp1 requires the project team to identify the IPCC emissions scenario used when evaluating future hazards. The LEED v5 glossary adopts the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report Shared Socioeconomic Pathways, including SSP1 sustainability, SSP2 “middle of the road,” and SSP3 regional rivalry. SSP2 represents a continuation of current social and emissions trends with moderate mitigation and adaptation challenges, making it the pathway most closely aligned with current-policy and historical-trend assumptions described in Option A. Simply choosing a generic “mid-range” scenario because it seems most likely is not sufficiently rigorous. Likewise, IPCC SSP scenarios are global socioeconomic/emissions pathways; geographic hazard projections are subsequently evaluated for the project location rather than defining the SSP itself. Therefore, Option A best reflects the scenario-selection concept presented in LEED v5.
