Flow Virtual Networking (FVN)usesGeneve encapsulation, which adds 58 bytes of overhead to every packet. On a standard 1,500-byte network, the effective MTU for the payload is reduced to1442 bytes. While Nutanix attempts to communicate this to User VMs (UVMs) via DHCP, some operating systems or static configurations ignore these advertisements. If a UVM sends a full 1,500-byte packet, the encapsulated packet (1,558 bytes) will be dropped by the AWS physical network. To resolve this, the administrator mustenable jumbo MTU on the UVMs(typically 9,001 bytes in AWS). By allowing the UVM to process larger packets or properly fragment them, the AHV host can successfully encapsulate and transmit the traffic over the underlying AWS infrastructure without fragmentation errors or packet loss.
