Adding the selected hosts to the NVMe subsystem with high priority is the correct method because ONTAP host priority controls the NVMe I/O queue resources assigned to a host. NetApp’s NVMe subsystem model defines the host priority setting as allocating appropriate I/O queue counts and queue depths for the host to submit I/O commands. Therefore, demanding database hosts that require larger queue counts and deeper queues should receive the higher host-priority setting rather than changing a volume QoS policy. QoS governs workload throughput or performance limits and does not directly redefine the NVMe host submission-queue count and depth.
