In Netskope, file profiles are used to define file attribute-based matching rules, such as detecting password-protected files or files of a specific type or size range. When the goal is to block uploads of password-protected files using a Real-time Protection policy, the file profile itself cannot be directly applied as a standalone constraint in the policy. Instead, the file profile must be associated with a DLP profile, which is then referenced within the Real-time Protection policy. The DLP engine uses the file profile as part of its match criteria, enabling the policy to take action when a password-protected file is detected. This integration between file profiles and DLP profiles is a core architectural design principle of Netskope’s content inspection workflow.
